INCONTRI (INTERSECTIONS) - Eastern and western culture in contemporary music

Convergence of thought and spirituality

between tradition and experimentation

The desire of an exchange taking place between East and West has been at the core of western culture for years. From Marco Polo to our days the fascination of Asia has not ceased to astonish those who have had the chance to experience a world different from ours, nevertheless sharing some similarities with the West.

Indeed, according to their own sensitivity and aesthetics, several 20th century composers of the West have been able to catch some aspects of Asian culture. On the other hand, Asian composers have been exploring western art up to the point of creating a musical expression rooted both in European classical music and their own local tradition.
